ReplyDeleteThe freedom is taken away because of all the rules. One reason is only allowed four people per family. That gives the choice of how many kids you want. Personally, I think life would be horrible with the way “The Giver” runs their community. We are allowed as many children as we want, unlike “The Giver” s community. We can also buy a bike at any age and ride it. We celebrate birthdays until we pass away. We can choose what job we want. We have so many more choices then in this novel. There are, however, some advantages if our society was like the books. One is we don’t need to decide anything. Our jobs would be chosen for us, we wouldn’t have to have interviews or applications. It would be chosen and done for us. Although with advantages, there are disadvantages. One is that we stop birthdays and go to work at twelve! I’m twelve right now and I can barely go to school! I would not want to give up my playing time, hanging with friends, and stop birthdays at twelve! Thos are some reasons why having the society like this book is good, yet bad. Also that is my explanation of “The Giver” s society and community.

ReplyDeleteFreedom and choice is important to us in our country and comunitee. The people in "The Giver" have none of that. Almost everything in life is chosen for them. When they can get a bike, when there birthdays are, and when they stop going to school. Even though going to school only till you're twelve all sorts of knowledge you would need for your job would be done. You wouldn't be able to chose your job and you will have that job for the rest of your life. What if later on people become bored with there jobs. They can't quit because that was there assignment chosen for them. Would you ever want to live here? Because trust me I don 't.

ReplyDeleteIn the story “The Giver” there society is a utopia or ideal perfect place to live in beliefs to the elders and many people in there community. There are certain law’s to allow this utopia to stay the same and rarely change . There are many up and down sides to this certain society. One of the rule’s that imply is that everyone is given a job. For instead of looking for a job they are assigned it they do not get to pick this certain job the committee of elders observe you and select one for you . In the down side of not being able to pick your own job is that what if you where to get tired of the same job every single day. Such which in our society you are able to pick your own job and quit a job you get tired of and try new things. You are able to request a job change in this utopia but it rarely happens. I like to have the freedom we have in our community we can pick what we have so many choices. I’d rather be in control of my own life instead of a group of people who don’t even know me personally.

ReplyDeleteIn the story “the giver” their community is so called perfect with no emotion or choice everything is decided for them by the elders of the community. Everything is decided for the people in the community like when you first get your bike, your children, your job and even your spouse. Their community is nothing like ours and I’m mostly glade of that but there are some rules that would make our community better. Like the limit of children people have, but I don’t think it should only two children I think it should be based on your income so you can have as many children as you want. All the other rules I believe would do bad for our community. Like chosen spouses and jobs, you have to marry someone you like not someone who is told to marry you. It is a dumb idea to choose somebody’s job for them because people are always changing jobs for better money or they got bored with the one they had. Another think that I don’t like is how everyone gets everything at the same time, because what if someone was a terrible child he would get a bike just like a kid who is good and works hard like me. So in every way our community and the community in “the giver” are different. That is my point of view on how “the giver” community and our community are compared to each other.

ReplyDeleteIn the story "The Giver", the freedom of choice is taken away in the society. It's taken away because it is a utopia society. A utopia society is a place that is perfect. In our society we are not perfect. Also, we murder, do drugs, have children before we are married, and a lot more bad things. The society in the story "The Giver", they have to follow the rules or they are kicked out of the society. Also they can be punished by getting put in jail. One rule is you can not own or ride a bike until the ceremony of nines. Some of the disadvantages of being in a utopia society is that you do not have that much freedom. Also you would have to follow the rules. If you did not follow the rules you would be put in jail or even be kicked out of the society. Some of the advantages are that you would be safe and there would not be any arguing or competition.

ReplyDeleteIn the story “The Giver” freedom is taken away from the citizens in the community. The citizens of the community have their freedom taken away because the community decides everything for them. Any citizen who disobeys the rules of the community is punished. In the society in “The Giver” there are certain rules like only two children are assigned to a family, strictly a boy and a girl. There is also a rule that a spouse is “assigned” to you, that is a bad rule because then people can’t choose who they feel is right for them. Another bad rule of the society is that your job is chosen for you. If it was like that in the United States then people could not help how much money they made because they couldn’t choose what job they have, and every job pays differently! If one person got a job as a lawyer and the other person got a job as a cashier, the cashier is going to have more limits to what they can buy then the lawyer, and they can’t help it! Another law is everyone stops celebrating their birthday at 12 and that’s when they get their job. Getting a job is a huge responsibility that some adults cannot even handle! If some adults cannot even handle this task, then it will be extremely hard for a 12-year-old kid! I think the only advantages of living in “The Giver’s” society are that there would be less crime and discrimination. The rest I think is all disadvantages.

ReplyDeleteIn the story "The Giver", I think that it’s just not fair. They have to follow rules that, in my opinion, unreasonable. As in like having only two children per family, one male and one female. You cannot have a bicycle until your nine years old. The one most thing that bothers me is that at the age of twelve your assigned a assignment for the rest of your lives. But in our society we can pick our own jobs, have s many kids as u want, and have toys at any age. We get to celebrate our years as they go on. Their utopian society they only celebrate up to twelve. We can also have as many comfort objects as we want. They cannot by the age of eight years old. Our people can have any type of clothes, and hair styles. To them, they all just wear the same type of clothing, and hairstyle. They also have to share their feelings, and dreams even if they don’t want to.

ReplyDeleteIn the story "The Giver", they don't have freedom and choice like we do in our society. They live in what's called a utopian society which is an ideal perfect world, unlike where we live live we have criminals and teenagers that are pregnant, and under age drinking. In "The Giver" they don't have any of that because of the rules they have, they are allowed only four people to a family unit; one male child, a female child, a mother, and a father. They aren't allowed to own or ride a bicycle until they recieve one at the ceremony of nines, when in our society your parents can get you what they want to and they can have their own kids. The benefit of the living in a utopian society is that you wont have any of the problems that we have but the disadvantage would be you aren't able to have a choice in your job, your spouse,or anything. In our society we are not perfect we don't have a committee of elders that watch us when we are children to find out what our assignment would be. In "The Giver" the children are born by the birth mother then assigned a number and they go to the nurturing center until the ceremony of ones unlike our community where anyone woman could have kids and they get to decide the name of the child.

ReplyDeleteI prefer freedom of choice in our society, that way I can make my own choices in the way I live my life. In "The Giver", the advantages I see, there would never be anyone who is unemployed or looking for a job because you are assigned one. Another advantage is the gifts you get on your birthday. No matter if you're rich or poor, everyone would be treated fairly. The disadvantages are the number of people you can have in your family. Some people like big families, but don't have a choice. Plus you get assigned a child and may not even get along with him. Other people may not want kids at all. Working at the age of twelve could be hard on someone that young. You may not have alot of time for fun or friends. I would not choose to live in "The Giver" society.

ReplyDeleteIn the Giver everything is chosen for you. You get to choose nothing yourself. You don't get to choose your job or your spouse. You also can't have more than two kids, one has to be a girl and one a boy. It is all just assigned to you. In our society we get to choose our job, our spouse, and how many kids we want. In our society with less rules more things can happen. People get a divorce, have kids before there married and things like that. In places like Utopia, those things don't just happen because it is against the law. There are also disadvantages to this. Everybody has the same number of kids. There are never more boys than girls or girls than boys. Everybody gets a bike at the same age and a comfort object when they’re born, assigned a family at a special ceremony when they turn one, and all get a bike at the same age. They each get those things taken away from them at a certain age also. There are also advantages to having everything the same. There is no jealousy because everybody has the same things. Some people can’t afford a bike or a comfort objects so their kids don’t get them. Then those kids see other kids who have parents who can afford things like that and they get jealous.

ReplyDeleteThe way we live has very different beliefs and rules than it describes in “The Giver.” Freedom is what is taken away in this community, because of imposed rules and beliefs. If our community was like theirs, we would have no freedom to make our own decisions.
The disadvantages in their society are that everyone is the same, there is no diversity. For example, all of their birthdays are in the same month, December. There also is a perception that their society is perfect. Although, there is no such thing as a “perfect” society. They stop celebrating their birthdays at age twelve. Another disadvantage is that their career is chosen by the Committee Of Elders.
One of the advantages of living in this community is, at early ages they get to learn different things and explore different careers.
They help each other by doing volunteer work. Also, they get to try different jobs to see if they like them.
In my opinion, I like our community much better than the community in the novel because we are free to make our own choices.

ReplyDeleteIn the story “The Giver” they lost their freedom of choice. They always have to do the same thing or they break the law. If life in America would be like that it would be bad. Our society is similar to “The Giver” in that both societies allow adults to have children. There aren’t many advantages to living in a society like that. One advantage is there is no crime. Another is there is no poverty. There are many more disadvantages. You are only allowed two children. The laws are much stricter. They choose an assignment, or job, for you. I wouldn’t want to live in a society like that in “The Giver” and be told what to do every day.
