The society in the Giver is really different then our society. In the Giver they have to apply for a child. They can't have a child and keep it, they have to give it to the nuturing center where the baby will be given away to parents who have applied for a baby. The rituals for the ones are in Decemeber. They will also be given a name. In our world, you are able to keep your baby and name it yourself. When you are in the nines you are able to get a bike and learn ho to ride it. In our society you can get a bike when ever you want. Also when you are in the eights you have to get ride of your night stuff animals. In our world you can keep your night animal as long as you want. Sara Niland
ReplyDeleteThe Givers society is pretty different than ours. But here are some similarities each child is able to sleep with a stuffed animal. A child may have a bike but whenever they want the similarity is that you are still getting a bike. We celebrate birthdays on the day you were born but they celebrate them in december but your still celerbraiting a birthday. Another similarty is that we are both societies that live in the same area, altogether. Those are some similarities between our society and the Givers society. Heather Vommoro

ReplyDeleteThe Giver society is very different than our society in many ways, but there many similarities also. Some of the differences are every baby that is born has to be given up to the Nurturer and they have to wait until December to be given to a family. Also, in December the babies are given a name because when they are born they are just given a number. In December all the children celebrate a year, and when you turn twelve you don’t celebrate your birthday anymore. Every family is only aloud to have two children; in our society you are aloud to have as many children as you want. Another difference is for your ones you receive a night animal, and for your nines you have to get rid of your night animal and you receive a bike, and finally for your twelve you receive a job from the Elders. The final difference is that there are always 50 children every year, and they are put together in groups. I those groups they do everything together. Some similarities are you celebrate your birthday, but you celebrate it in a different way. Another similarity is a lot of children sleep with a stuff animal when they are younger. Those are some of the similarities and differences between the Giver society and our society.
There are a lot of differences between our society and The Giver’s society. They are only aloud to have two kids one male and one female. We can have as many as we want. They all get a bike at the age nine. We get it when ever we want. They have to apply for a child and get the child at the Ceremony of Ones. We have the baby and we don’t have a ceremony we have our birthdays and celebrate on the day we were born. We can keep our stuffed animal as long as we want to they have to get rid of them at age nine. They get jobs at age twelve we get jobs at age sixteen. They are also assigned a job and we get to choose what job we want. Those are a lot of differences the one thing that I can think is similar is that they share their feelings and we do that to. They just do it every night after dinner we do it whenever we want. There are a lot more differences then similar but that’s ok because every society will not be the exact same. Olivia Lackey

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot a similarities between the Giver's society and our society. Each child sleeps with a stuffed animal. The child gives up there stuffed animal at some point. All the children receive a name. Every child celebrates their birthday. All of the children receive a bike. There is a mother and a father in the family. There are many similarities between the Giver's society and our society. But that was a few of them.

ReplyDeleteThe givers society is different than ours in many ways. But is similar in some other ways. The givers society is alike ours, like that kids still go to school. In our society we go to school to. The house of elders can relate to our retirement homes. Were old people are taken care of. Children have comfort objects witch can relate to young children's stuffed animals. Parents and children get assigned assignments witch can relate to peoples jobs in our society. The committee is like our government who decide on laws. So the society's are alike in ways. WALTER JOHNSON
ReplyDeleteWell are socity and the socity in the giver are both very diffrent but they do have some simalarites. We have the same jobs. We all get a education. We all get toys, but there aranged by age. They have a comitee of leaders smillar to ours. We all have volentering even though theres' is maditory. We all share are fellings with family like we do, but in a diffrent way. We all nurtures ,but usually the parents are the nurtures. We all get families, but there you don't get your own birth parents. That are some of the similarities that we have compared to what the giver has. Dr.profeser Zion Thomson
ReplyDeleteThere are many different things about The Givers socity and our socity. But, many things are also the same. One thing that is the same is, we pick our jobs based on what we like and are good at. In The Giver the when the ceromoey of 12's roles around the tweleves get there assignments. Most of the time those asignments based on what there good at and what they like to do. My second reson is at one or another time in our lives we have been nurturers. Being a baby sitter is like being a nurturer. You get to take care of a baby you don't know verry well. Or when you get older and actually have a baby, for the first few moths you just feed it, cange its diaper, and watch it grow hair. Then, when it becomes one you start to feed it, and teach it how to talk. Those are to similarities between The Givers socit and ours

The Givers society is much different then ours. For example when a child in the Givers society turns nine they automatically get a bike. This may be true for some people in our society but not for everybody. Another example is the education. Everybody in both society gets an education no matter if their poor or rich. Also we all probably volunteer in both society's. They may volunteer more but we all still volunteer in something usually. Another example is that the house of olds is pretty much the same as an old folks home in our society. There's a similarity between their society's children and ours. Their children sleep with a "comfort object" which is much like a stuffed animal that our society's children sleep with when they go to bed but they don't get it taken away from them when they turn a certain age. Those are just some similarities between our society and the Givers society.

ReplyDeleteThere are many things that makes America a "perfect world", just like the society in The Giver. The first one is everyone has a comfort object. They have to give it up sooner or later. Another similarity would be that everyone gets privileges at certain ages. Although, they might not always be the same ages. Also all the kids go to school with other kids. There are certain rules that the kids have to follow at school. You’re also not allowed to take the school’s things from the school. In our society- we pick our jobs counting on what we like to do, and what we are good at. Another similarity is that, the parents raise children, and care for them.
(P.S. This is a really good book so far! Thanks for choosing this book for us to read, Mrs. Costello!)
Jonathan Oskin The Givers society is way, way different then our society. Like when you are born you don't get to stay with your original birthmother. In the normal today society you would stay with your birthmother. When you turn one you get assigned a name, a comfort object, and a family.Originally your parents choose your name and give you a blanket or something. You have to give up your comfort object after a while. When you turn nine you get your first bike. In our today society you can ride a bike at any age. When you turn twelve its the last of the ceremonys that they have for each age, you get assigned a job then. Well there society is really different then our society.

ReplyDeleteThe society in the giver compared to us is almost completely different, but the same in some ways. Like when you are born you don't get to see your birthmother ever again, you get assinged to a family unit. You don't go to the family unit until the ceremony of 1, and then someone has to apply for a you. In normal day life you get born and you get nurchered by your mom and dad until your 18. Also in the society of "The Giver", you are with your family unit for 12 years after that you get asigned to an assignment by the commitee of elders. In our society nobody can get a real job until they are 16 years or older otherwise you have to get a job from your neighbor or something. In our society you can get pretty much anything you want at whatever age you want, but in " The Giver", you get assigned an object every new ceremony. In real life situations you really never need to do volenteer work , but in " The Giver", you need to do so much volenteer work or you don't get assigned a job. These are some of the many reasons why the society of " The Giver", are different then of our society on Earth.
There are definitely more differences than similarities between our society and the society in The Giver, although I can name quite a few similarities. First of all, everybody has a name, although in The Giver, babies are given a name at the Ones ceremony, instead of a few days after birth, like in our society. Another similarity is that all children go to school, and adults go to work. Many of the jobs in our society and the society in The Giver are similar. Additionally, young children have "comfort objects", or in our society, stuffed animals. Yet another similarity between the society in The Giver and our society is the fact that children enjoy riding bicycles. In both societies, people occasionally break rules. Also, the two societies are similar because the majority of the senior citizens go to a special place for other people their age. For example, in The Giver, the seniors go to the House of the Old which is similar to a retirement home, or a nursing home as we have in our society. Another similarity is that there are families. Lastly, both societies have various types of aircrafts. These examples of similarities are a good portion of the similarities between our society and the society in The Giver.

ReplyDeleteIn the story The Giver their society and ours are completely different. There are many reasons that you could say they are not similar. One of the reasons is that in The Giver at birth you receive a number. You also live in a place they call the nurturing center. All babies do not receive a family until the upcoming December. You also don’t receive a name. At birth you received a comfort object. In our world it is different because at birth you do not have to receive a number. Also you do not have to go to a nurturing center and wait till you can get your family. You also don’t have to wait to get your name. There are also many other reasons that The Giver and our society are different. That was just the difference for birth.
There are few ways are communities are similar, but there are many ways are communities different. Different: They get there jobs at the age of twelve we, get our jobs at sixteen, and we choose are jobs by going to college they get there jobs assigned by the elders. When we become adults we don't apply for babies we just have them ourselves, but when they want babies they have to apply for them. At certain ages they get things like bikes. They get theres at the age of nine but we get it at the age of when our parents say. When they are born they get a number and go to the nurtering center. When December rools around they get named and assigned a livng unit. That is a few of the many ways we are different. Similar: They get there comfort object when they are born, and we usually do to. That is the one way we are similar.

The giver community is very different from ours.
ReplyDeleteevery one is treated the same. they also have age groups and specail laws. At nine they get their bikes. At twelve they are given jobs for the rest of thier adult hood. At age eight they begin volenteer hours. when they get to old they go to the house of old. when we get to old we retire and we get our jobs at 16. we are not assigned a job we chose it for our talents.

What I think the differences are about their world and are world is that they never get to see their birth mother. And we do will we live with are real mother. And when they are born they don’t get there name until they are one. We get are names when we are born. And they can’t ride there bike until they are 9. We can ride are bike at eney age. They have to do work when they are 8 thru 12. We don’t have to work at anytime or age. They have sarimonyes when they are 1 thru 12. We never have a saramony.they can only live to a certain age. We can live forever if we could. They are called number. And we are not called a numbers. They have to share their feeling and dreams every night and day. We don’t share are feelings at all.

Gabe Brown Our society is similiar to the Givers but there are only a few. Some ways they are both similiar is that we all should get a stuffed animal to help us sleep at night. There are no more things that are the same with are commuities. Things that are different about are communitie s are that when we are born we stay with are parents and not at the nursery. Are parents also name us when we are in our moms stomacts.Every one of the kid and adaults have the same eye color in the Giver but here they are different. The parents in our community can have as many children as they want and the Givers can't. The givers community is like a utopian world and ours isn't. Our community we get to take snacks home with us as long as they aren't open. Our and the Givers communities will never be the same.
